The American Heart Association formed Go Red For Women in 2004 as an initiative for women to take charge of their heart health. Cardiovascular disease claims the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year. The mission of Go Red For Women is to encourage awareness of heart disease among women, and also action to save more lives. The movement encompasses the power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It’s about knowing your risk and how to live a heart healthy life, starting now.
